Elsewhere in the index you may have seen the page about Annie Louisa Roebuck, who was Cynthia's mother. Lily was Annie's sister, therefore Cynthia's aunt. Her parents were Francis and Hannah Moore, who also have their page on this site. Lily was born on 11th March 1889, at 6 Greenfield Lane, Rawmarsh, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
Cynthia was also related to Lily via her father's side of the family, as Lily was married to John Edward Roebuck on 3rd August 1908, at Mexborough Parish Church, South Yorkshire. John Edward was a brother of George Thomas Roebuck I, Cynthia's father.

Left: This studio picture of Lily is estimated to date from the first decade of the 20th century, towards the start of the First World War, partly because she looks about 20 or so and was born in 1889, and partly because of her clothing. The white blouse and dark skirt remained popular throughout the 1910s, before hobble skirts and narrow dresses came into fashion. She is wearing a wedding ring, so it is after 1908.

Right: This much later photograph of Lily might show her more how people remember her, as a feisty middle-aged lady. Cynthia has told anecdotes of how she would come to stay at the Clare family home in Kent, and allegedly help decorate the place(?).
Lily died on 19th September 1967, in Oakwood Hall Hospital in Rotherham.
Lily and John Edward had three children, Arnold Leslie, Ronnie Alfred and Marion Ellen. This latter lady was given two family names, Marion after her aunt, who had married uncle Fred Roebuck, and Ellen, from her grandmother who was married to Obadiah Roebuck.

Left: We hope we have the right Marion in the right place, according to how Cynthia grouped the photos in the album. This should be Marion Ellen, the youngest child of John Edward and Lily Roebuck. She was born in 1917, and certainly looks a 1920s child. (The only other Marion she could be is Marion junior, the daughter of Fred and Marion Roebuck, who was born in 1922).

Right: A later photo, again we hope we have the right Marion. This should again be Marion Ellen, the daughter of John Edward and Lily. Marion Ellen was a Nursing Sister by profession. She married three times, according to the family tree. Firstly she married George White on unknown date, and had two children with him, Jane Sylvia White and Beatrice Anne White. Subsequently she married Arnold Allison on 28th February 1955, who was a steelworks breaker by profession. They had son David Allison in 1960. Janette remembers being taken visiting during the very early 1970s, in particular looking at David's stamp collection as we had one too. Arnold died on 10th July 1994. Marion also married again in more recent years, on 17th March 1995, in Bramley near Leeds, to Ben Brettell. Photos of this latter couple will be coming up in the "modern photos" collection.
