Everyone knows about the earthquake and tsunami which devastated the countries around the Indian Ocean on 26th December 2004. Funds are being collected in various ways to help the international aid effort. On two consecutive Fridays so far, staff have organised an Indian meal at The Pines, Peterborough District Hospital. The organisers have donated the food, and customers have paid £5 or more for their meal, all monetary proceeds going to the appeal. These pictures were taken on the 7th January occasion, which was even more successful than the previous one...
(Above) Let the feast begin: On the menu today was rice with cashew nuts, chick pea curry, vegetable curry, another rice dish, tandoori chicken, raita, salad and poppadoms. For dessert were various Indian puddings, including vermicelli cooked in milk, and an interesting variation on Rice Krispie cake.
The queue lengthens, people coming from off site to partake. Preparing and serving the meal are, from the front, Neera, her friend and Ruta. "Ian" the skeleton looks on with approval over Neera's shoulder...
(Above) Our cashier, Lynne, shows how much money has been collected, while Ruta (left) and Neera look on...
(Above) The organisers can feel very proud of their efforts!
(Below) The Pines got so crowded people had to disperse and sit where they could, in the secretarial office...
...In reception (no patients today, or they would have joined in too...)
In the meeting room...
Or just in the corridor if that's where there was room...
Anyway, everyone had a nice meal, and a chance to network and meet new people, and over £200 was raised for the Tsunami Earthquake Appeal. Well done Neera, Ruta and friends!
