Just off the plane, into amazing heat, suitcases dropped off, and let's find the nearest beach bar.  This is where we met Stelios the barman, waving to us from behind the bar, whom you will also find later on in the People section.

And here is our accommodation:

As is the Cretan custom, the barman gives us a free drink, tasting like a mixture between coconut milk and anti-freeze...

Well, down the hatch!  It'll fend off frostbite when we get home.

Now some Greek grub.  Alun got annoyed when I re-arranged his food on the plate to look good for the camera:

Can't even have a quick snack in peace!  Note the lovely scenery - we were trekking uphill to find a church in a cave - see later.

At the Greek night we are too transfixed to eat, but what a spread! This was just the starter - there were all kinds of kebabs (souvlaki), moussaka, and rather incongruously, sausage rolls!

Working off all this food somehow, this is how we spent part of each day:

This equipment proved essential to retrieve glasses from bottom of deep end! There was plenty of diving to be done in the sea, but the high winds stopped the boats going out on the days when we were available.

Off to the beach.  We just had to walk a few yards, across the  main road and down another block, and we were there.
