On the previous page you will have seen the details of the St Mamas church in Aghia Marina, and who the saint was. The festival was on 2nd September, and on the preceding evening, locals gathered at the church to light candles. At 7.30 a.m. on the day itself, loud chanting could be heard over a very powerful sound system for over an hour. I snuck out of bed, with camera, to have a look. Not wanting to be seen to be taking photos, these were done as discreetly as possible. People seemed to be turning up at the church, taking bread, blessing the saint whose picture was on the lectern, lighting a candle, then going inside the church to be blessed by two priests who were presiding in there. Then they appeared to be either lingering outside, or getting on with their day.
