Alias Pano Platanias, meaning Upper Platanias. Platanias is the next resort along, and just before the main square is a steep, narrow street signposted Pano Platanias. This old village has a few apartments, tavernas and a supermarket, but is mainly residential. As you may have seen on another page, it gives good views over the surrounding area as it is obviously higher than Pano Aghia Marina.
All the views looking east from here are of Aghia Marina resort, and are shown on that page. Here, we are looking inland and to the west, in places spotting the rest of Platanias resort and the beginning of the next one, Gerani.
Below: what seemed a perfect photo in the flesh has become a classic example of how to let your background swamp your subject. This statue, if you can see it, celebrates the local animal, the cri-cri goat, which is exclusive to this half of Crete.
