Aghia Marina - old village

Many of the villages in the area have a higher, usually older, village up on the mountain, and a lower, often newer, town on the coast road.  It is these latter villages which are usually the holiday resorts.  In Aghia Marina, the most direct way to get up to the main square in old Aghia Marina is to take the road next to the petrol station uphill for a few hundred metres.  This is what you'll find...

 

 

Below: I'm going through a phase of taking pictures through arches at the moment.  The first one is spoilt a bit by the telegraph pole, but you can't avoid them!  The island is Theodorou, occupied only by the "cri-cri", a native wild goat.

Below: this is the main square.  Earlier that morning there were locals sitting at the tables outside the bar on the left, doing their worry beads, and their mate arrived in a van, rifle slung over his back, like you do.  We kept a low profile...
